For Tramps you will need: • 60 – 75 litre pack with plastic liner • Sleeping bag • Rain Coat or suitable Parka • Fleece jumper • Lunches • Any nibbles, scroggin etc you may require • Water bottle – Full! & thermos if a hot drink wanted • Sunscreen and insect repellent come in handy • Small personal first aid kit. • Hat (to suit the season) • Toilet paper Soap/Hand sanitizer • Torch and fresh batteries / headlamp • Plate, cup and cutlery • Changes of clothing (based on days involved) • Wear boots, shorts, layered clothing, polypropylene, fleece or wool, a warm hat or sunhat • Change of clothing and shoes (to be left aboard the van) • Money to pay for transport
The trip leader provides Breakfasts and Evening Meals; Lunches and ‘nibbles’ are your responsibility.
The cut-off time to book-in for a weekend overnight trip is 7.00pm on the prior Wednesday.

Please Note: If you ring to book in for a trip, especially for a week-end effort, please don’t be offended if you are quizzed by the trip leader. The leaders’ first priority is the over-all safety of the members of their party. If you are unknown to the leader, he/she will want to be happy in their mind that you will be able to handle the terrain. There is some big country out there: Especially in the Tararuas and Ruahines with high spots 1500 metres plus encountered on some of the tramps and rarely is there a short-cut back if it all becomes too much!!
Mountain Bike Activities
The Wanganui Tramping Club's 'Mountain Bike' group aim for a minimum of one bike-oriented trip per month.
Please contact the trip leader listed in the Trips' Listing to book in and discuss Pack/Equipment Requirements etc at that time.
